WELCOME TO THE EMBASSY OF LEBANON TO THE NETHERLANDS

General Information:

  • Lebanese living in the Netherlands have to register their vital civil status events (marriage, birth, divorce, and death) through the Lebanese Embassy in The Hague or the relevant Honorary Consulate.
  • Make sure to sign and fill in all the required information on the relevant registration form provided under each section.
  • Make sure to submit the entire required documents mentioned in each section with the relevant form.
  • Registering the following vital events: marriage, birth,  and death is free of charge. Thus, the applicant can fill in the appropriate form and send it by post to the Embassy – Consular Section with the required documents.

Marriage registration:

Required Documents:

  • The completed marriage registration form.
  • The original marriage certificate issued by the relevant Dutch authorities in international format (original + copy)
  • Recent Lebanese individual civil registry record بيان قيد افرادي  for each Lebanese spouse ( 2 copies)
  • Valid Lebanese passport or Lebanese ID (2 copies)
  • If the spouse of the Lebanese citizen is of foreign nationality: the documents required are those previously mentioned; in addition:
    • The birth certificate of the non-Lebanese spouse (original + copy) accompanied by the original official translation if the document is drawn up in a language other than Arabic, French, or English,
    • And a valid foreign passport (2 copies)

Remark: it is essential to enter the wife’s relevant personal information in Arabic on the registration form.

 

Birth registration:

Required Documents:

  • The birth registration form
  • Copy of a Lebanese family registry record بيان قيد عائلي proving that the marriage was duly registered in Lebanon (2 copies)
  • The child’s birth certificate issued by the relevant Dutch municipality in international format (original + copy)
  • Valid Lebanese passport or ID for the father and valid Lebanese or foreign passport or ID for the mother (2 copies)

Remark: Entering the child’s first name in Arabic on the registration form is essential.

 

Divorce registration:

General Information:

  • This section concerns the registration of a divorce resulting from civil marriage in the Netherlands.
  • The presence of one of the applicants is mandatory after making an appointment to sign a special power of attorney; to obtain the divorce judgment’s exequatur in Lebanon and execute it with the competent authorities.
  • For the signature of the power of attorney, refer to the power of attorney section for detailed information on the required documents, the applicable procedure, and the consular fees.
  • After submitting the request, the embassy will ensure the transmission of the file to the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants. The competent authorities will review it for approval.

Required Documents:

  • The completed divorce registration form.
  • The legalized divorce judgment by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (original + copy).
  • The translation of the divorce judgment into Arabic by a sworn translator and legalized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (original + copy).
  • The divorce certificate issued by the relevant Dutch municipality in international format (original + copy).
  • The Lebanese marriage certificate or copy of a family civil registry record بيان قيد عائلي  proving that the marriage was registered in Lebanon (2 copies).
  • Lebanese ID for the Lebanese national applicant or a copy of a foreign passport for the foreign spouse. ( 2 copies)

Consular Fees:

  • Legalization of the divorce judgment: 55 €
  • Legalization of the divorce judgment translation: 36 € per translated page.
  • Special power of attorney: 44 €

Death registration:

General Information:

  • This section concerns the registration of the death of a Lebanese citizen in The Netherlands.
  • Only the heirs of the deceased are competent to register his death.

Required Documents:

  • Copy of the duly completed and downloadable online death registration form.
  • The death certificate issued by the relevant Dutch municipality in international format. (original + copy)
  • ِA recent Lebanese family civil registry record بيان قيد عائلي of the deceased ( 2 copies)
  • The Lebanese passport of the deceased (if possible).
  • Identity document of the applicant provided he is one of the heirs of the deceased ( 2 copies)

Repatriation: Returning a deceased person’s body to Lebanon

Required Documents:

  • A death certificate issued by the relevant Dutch municipality in international format (original + photocopy).
  • A medical certificate attesting that the death was not due to a contagious disease (original + photocopy).
  • The body embalming certificate. This document is optional (original + photocopy).
  • Burial Transit permit (original + photocopy)
  • Letter of sealed casket
  • Original passport of the deceased (if possible)
  • Mortuaries pass (to be issued by the consular service).

Consular fees: 44€

Testament:

General information:

  • The applicant must come in person to sign the testament after making an appointment.
  • People aged 80 and over must have a medical certificate attesting to their intellectual capacity.

Required document:

  • Text of the will/ testament.
  • Valid Lebanese identity card or the Lebanese individual civil registry record بيان قيد افرادي or a valid Lebanese passport (original + photocopy).
  • The will/ testament must include the entire identity and contact details (address and telephone number) of the established heir (s) and those of the executor.

Consular fees: 110 €

Acquisition of the Lebanese Nationality by Marriage:

General information:

  • This procedure concerns the application for the acquisition of Lebanese nationality by the effect of marriage.
  • The foreign wife of a Lebanese citizen can acquire the Lebanese nationality after one year from the date of the marriage transcription in the Lebanese civil registry record.
  • The presence of the wife at the Embassy is mandatory after making an appointment.

Required documents 

  • The marriage certificate issued by the general directorate of Lebanese civil status and legalized by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants (original + photocopy).
  • Family civil registry record بيان قبد عائلي proving the marriage registration in Lebanon(original + photocopy).
  • The application duly completed and signed by the wife at the Embassy.
  • The wife’s birth certificate (originals + photocopy).
  • A copy of the identity card of the Lebanese husband.
  • A valid passport of the foreign wife (photocopy of the first four pages).

Consular fees: 44 €

Renunciation of the Lebanese Nationality:

General information:

  • The applicant’s presence at the Embassy is mandatory to request in person the renunciation of his Lebanese nationality and the reasons behind his request.
  • After submitting the request, the Embassy will ensure the transmission of the file to the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The competent authorities will review it for approval.
  • Upon request of the concerned person, the Embassy can deliver an attestation stating that the applicant has applied to renounce his Lebanese nationality on a specific date.

Required Documents:

  • Request to renounce the Lebanese nationality drafted and signed by the applicant at the Embassy, providing his complete personal information and the reasons behind his request.
  • Lebanese identity card, or failing that, the individual civil registry record بيان قيد افرادي, or the valid Biometric Lebanese passport (original + copy)
  • Letter of the IND informing the applicant of the prerequisite obligation to renounce his nationality before acquiring the Dutch nationality. (original + copy)

Consular fees:

  • Application to renounce the Lebanese nationality: 880 €
  • Attestation: 53 €
